What to check when calculating working hours
A start time and end time provide the basic shift duration, but accurate time records may also depend on breaks, overnight work and the way hours are recorded for payroll or billing.
Separate Paid and Unpaid Breaks
Only breaks that should be excluded from worked time should be entered as unpaid breaks. Paid breaks should normally remain within the calculated working time.
Check Overnight Shifts
When a shift finishes after midnight, the end time belongs to the following day. This calculator automatically handles an end time that is earlier than the entered start time as an overnight shift.
Use Decimal Hours Correctly
Hours and minutes are not the same as decimal hours. For example, 8 hours 30 minutes is 8.50 decimal hours, while 8 hours 15 minutes is 8.25 hours.
Verify Actual Time Records
